Where History and Elevation Meet

Cheaha Mountain rises 2,407 feet above the surrounding forest, home to Alabama's oldest state park and the highest point in the state. Hike to Bald Rock, climb the CCC built Bunker Tower, cool off at Cheaha Lake, or simply watch the clouds settle below you. Nearly a century of history stands alongside the view, from hand built stonework to trails that have drawn visitors since 1933. However you spend the day, the mountain is already waiting.

Getting Here

Plan Your Visit

Getting here is easy: you're just 30 minutes from Oxford, 40 minutes from Talladega, and about an hour and a half from both Birmingham and Atlanta. Visitors traveling from Montgomery, Huntsville, or Nashville can expect a scenic drive of two to four hours, making Cheaha an easy weekend destination from across the Southeast.

Once here, choose from 32 mountain view lodge rooms opening mid 2026, historic CCC cabins with full kitchens and fireplaces, 1970s era chalets, or the 12 room Bald Rock Lodge for larger gatherings. Spend your days on 17 miles of trails, including the Pinhoti Trailhead connecting to the Appalachian Trail, or cool off at the six acre spring fed lake with swimming and kayaking. Surrounded by 392,567 acres of Talladega National Forest, Cheaha offers a getaway with as much history as it has elevation.
